The Ragdoll Cat originated from California in the early 1960's. The breed was created by Ann Baker who combined the best attributes of Persians, Bermans, and Burmese cats to develop what is known today as the Ragdoll Cat.

Ragdoll cats are typically large and muscular with a silky hair coat. Coat colors are white or cream with seal, blue, or lilac points.

The breed obtained the name because they will actually go limp in your arms, like a child's ragdoll!

The beautiful Mink Ragdoll is bred through only a handful of breeders around the world who wish to continue with these rare old lines of Solids and Minks.

Minks are purchased, SBT registered, and have the same personalities and favorable characteristics as the traditional variety Ragdoll Cat.

The Mink Ragdoll is borne with full color, unlike the traditional Ragdoll. Traditional point kittens usually take several days to begin to show color. The coat of a Mink is smoother and much softer, and develops a darker and much richer point color than the traditional Ragdoll. The body color of a Mink is a few grades lighter than their points.

Minks come in the same colors as Traditional Ragdolls. Recognized colors are: Blue, Blue/Cream, Seal, Lilac, Flame, Cream, Chocolate and Tortie.

They also have the same coat patterns. Recognized patterns are Mitted, Color Point and Bi-color. Pattern overlays are Tortie Point and Lynx Point. Eye color is a stunning Bluish-Green Aqua.

Mitted Ragdolls have a colored mask and ears, but their legs have white mittens on the front paws and white boots on the back legs. The mitted pattern can be any of the colors mentioned and may have the Lynx Point or Tortie Point pattern added. Mitted Ragdolls also have a white chin, ruff, and stomach.

Color Points have colored mask, ears, feet, nose, paw pads and tail. The Color Point Ragdoll has no white in its point pattern.

Bi-Color patterns are marked by a noticeable white inverted "V" in the mask. They have point colored ears and tail with white legs, feet, ruff and stomach. The nose and pads of a Bi-Color are pink.

Tortie Point pattern overlays any of the previous patterns. A Tortie cat will have Red or Cream mixed with one of the other colors: Seal, Blue, Chocolate or Lilac.

Lynx Point pattern shows up as tabby markings on the face in what looks like the letter "M" on the forehead.

The Algonquin Hotel in New York City keeps a Ragdoll in its lobby. This tradition of keeping a cat dates to the 1930s; males are named Hamlet and females Matilda.

The current Matilda is an 11-year old female ragdoll who strolls the lobby and perches on the front desk. She was recently named cat of the year at the Westchester Cat Show in Westchester County, New York. Matilda has a signature cocktail in the hotel bar; her likeness is on a children's book and Christmas ornament.
